Season Update

Now last season this was the A team blog, however this season the majority of the A team have moved to the reserves including myself, allowing last years under 16 team to move to the A team. Having trained with these players on wednesday nights they are a great bunch of lads and they have some very talented players which can only benefit Hethersett Athletic as a club in the future. What really hits me though is the togetherness and team spirit the whole group on Wednesdays show which shows the spirit within the club.

I suppose i should talk about the Reserves start to the season. It was diffucult pre season to arrange a full team to play. Alot of the players last year play saturday football and now find it hard to play 2 games in a weekend and understandably would rather play saturday than sunday. The first couple of games mixed alot of players who haven't played together before and alot of the players from the A team including myself had never played in any division apart from 4B before so were thrown into the deep end in 2B. The first game was dissapointing however even though the results have been poor, the level of play and team work the guys have shown has been superb and the performances have been improving.

A mention must be made to Dave Mannington. Dave has recently left his role as manager of the reserve side. He has done great work in the last few years and will be missed from the club. A couple of weeks ago Ross Eyeington the reserve team goalkeeper got a bad blow to the head when a very strongly hit shot bounced of the post and hit him on the base of the scull from a distance of around a yard. I was playing centre back that day and spoke to ross immediately after the incident and noticed nothing wrong. It was only when the game didn't restart as expected that i turned around to see that Ross had collapsed. By this time Dave was already administering first aid, clearing Ross's airway and putting him in the recovery position then instructing for an ambulance to be called. Without Dave there i am unsure how this situation would have panned out so as a close friend of Ross's i would like to thank Dave for that as well and to Paul Stone for calling the ambulance and relaying the first aid messages and assistance from the ambulance service. Ross has since made a complete recovery but can't remember anything about the game so i said we won 12-0 and asked him to give me back the £50 i lent him just before the game. This made me think of a Brian Clough story of when Stuart Pearce was knocked out during a Nottingham Forest game. the physio shouted over to the bench "he's out, he doesn't even know who he is!!!" To which Brian Clough responded "Tell him he's Pele and put him up front.."

At the moment Danny Holman is looking after the reserves but i don't believe he wishes that to be a permanent appointment so the reserves are actively looking for a manager.

I believe this is the only blog for the reserves and A Team so i will do my best to frequently post on the games of both teams as accuately as possible

End Of Season

Well sorry for the lack of updates lately, i have had serious computer issues with it keep crashi

There it goes again....

Well the season ended poorly for the A team with us only picking up 5 points during 2007. There were some good performances but the results against North Walsham and Dynamo Denmark really affected morale.

So here are the Matt Parkhouse completely unofficial awards for season 2006/2007

Goal of the season

The majestic leap by Matt Parkhouse in the dying minutes of the sprowston game was like a salmon leaping out of..... ok ok i'm lying again...

Goal of the season for me has to be the shot from just in the right half from Rob Pugh.. 45 yards... It was meant for Andy Oliver on the right wing of course... No it was a great strike!

Nice to see of the season

It was really good to see Martin Mowser back playing this season after badly breaking his leg two seasons ago whilst playing for Hethersett. It was also good to see Scott Allen, the clubs top goalscorer return towards the end of the season after he picked up a really really bad break earlier in the season.

Is it really that important? moment of season...

Mike Pugh's broken nose. Our best wishes go out to Mike and his lovely little hooter....

Supporter of the season

No score draw between Karla, Emma and Jane!!

Worst dress sense of season

Lewis Allens bermuda shorts!! in the middle of december....

Person arriving on sunday mornings looking like they haven't been home since a night out most often...

Sorry that would be me....

Sunday Morning Flatulance Award

Nookie by a nose...

Arriving still looking drunk award

Danny Holman

Own Goal of the season award

Tie between Rob Pugh, Tim Allenden and me Matt Parkhouse, Tim's was a majestic Volley over the keeper, Rob was actually nowhere near his so thats probably the most impressive.. Mine was a imaculate piece of control followed by a left foot shot into the bottom corner.... The best thing about this was that there was ten minutes to go and made the score 3-2....

Unsung hero of the season

There can be only one... Bob Oliver.. We all appreciate the work Bob does during the season, We all may not show it but it is highly appreciated..

Half time refreshment of the season

Paul, the half time hot chocolate in the middle of winter is a godsend!

Person trying to look like Thierry Henry the most by wearing gloves to play

Matty "Pele" Bradfield

Save of the season:

Even though the Mundsley defender palming the ball around the post shortly before being sent off was funny, Stewie Holland's display against Costessey was superb..

On Pitch arguments of season

Rob Pugh and Mike Pugh... brotherly love...

Acheivement of the season

Nookie being offside 34,987 times!! just kidding.. has to be Danny Holman reaching 300 games for the club.. Superb

And Finally....

Player of the season

I'll leave this one up to you!

If you want to vote however please send a blank postcard to:

HETHERSETT ATHLETIC A TEAM v NCC (Memorial Playing Field Sunday 4th February 10.30)

Well it was a good game on sunday between the potential league winners NCC and Hethersett. Both teams played well, it was friendly, and nobody ended up in hospital like in the last game...

After an even opening, NCC took the league after some great play down the right wing and a superb cross that was calmly headed in by the NCC forward. Hethersett soon found their rhythm and were unlucky not to score after Nookie was through one on one with the goalkeeper who made a great save. Hethersett did score before halftime, a right footed shot off the post by left winger Chris Sutcliffe.

The second half was an even affair with both sides having good chances to win the game. Hethersett will feel happy with a point, but could have won the game.

Score 1-1

Freethorpe v HETHERSETT ATHLETIC A TEAM (Sunday 21st January 10.30)

Well what can be said...

The game started well for Freethorpe who had much of the early play and scored early on with a route one goal.

Hethersett created many chances but some fine saves and unlucky finishes kept the score at 1-0 at the break. HEthersett were the stronger team in the second half, scored twice through Tim Allenden and Divvy to win 2-1.

The incident at the end of the game spolied the day, best wishes to Mike from all.

Team - Tom Rainsford, Tim Allenden, Danny Holman, Mike Pugh, Rob Pugh (Matt Parkhouse), Divvy, Matty Bradfield, Chris Sutcliffe, Andy Oliver, Nookie (Mannington), Josh Mann

Costessey Sports v HETHERSETT ATHLETIC A TEAM (Sunday 7th January 10.30)

Well new year didnt start with a bang for the A team.....

After scoring an early goal through Lewis Allen, Hethersett couldn't take advantage of the lead and the teams went in square at half time.

Costessey came out the better team after half time, and try as they might, hethersett conceded halfway through the second half to a fluke cross/shot. This knocked the spirit out of hethersett and pushed Costessey on to score what turned out to be the winner a few minutes later.

Hethersett's cause was not helped by the injuries to two influential players, Mike Douglas and Chris Sutcliffe.

Has Hethersett's push for the title now gone?

Team: Stewie Holland, mike Pugh, Rob Pugh, Danny Holman, Tim Allenden, Chris Sutcliffe (Olly Whitmore), Dougladinho (Josh Mann), Matt Bradfield, Andy Oliver, Nookie, Lewy Allen

Sub not used (but still managed to be sent ff from being linesman) - Matt Parkhouse (but remember who scored the winning goal last week...)

Score 2-1

Attendance- 18

Weather - not so bad
