Season Update
I suppose i should talk about the Reserves start to the season. It was diffucult pre season to arrange a full team to play. Alot of the players last year play saturday football and now find it hard to play 2 games in a weekend and understandably would rather play saturday than sunday. The first couple of games mixed alot of players who haven't played together before and alot of the players from the A team including myself had never played in any division apart from 4B before so were thrown into the deep end in 2B. The first game was dissapointing however even though the results have been poor, the level of play and team work the guys have shown has been superb and the performances have been improving.
A mention must be made to Dave Mannington. Dave has recently left his role as manager of the reserve side. He has done great work in the last few years and will be missed from the club. A couple of weeks ago Ross Eyeington the reserve team goalkeeper got a bad blow to the head when a very strongly hit shot bounced of the post and hit him on the base of the scull from a distance of around a yard. I was playing centre back that day and spoke to ross immediately after the incident and noticed nothing wrong. It was only when the game didn't restart as expected that i turned around to see that Ross had collapsed. By this time Dave was already administering first aid, clearing Ross's airway and putting him in the recovery position then instructing for an ambulance to be called. Without Dave there i am unsure how this situation would have panned out so as a close friend of Ross's i would like to thank Dave for that as well and to Paul Stone for calling the ambulance and relaying the first aid messages and assistance from the ambulance service. Ross has since made a complete recovery but can't remember anything about the game so i said we won 12-0 and asked him to give me back the £50 i lent him just before the game. This made me think of a Brian Clough story of when Stuart Pearce was knocked out during a Nottingham Forest game. the physio shouted over to the bench "he's out, he doesn't even know who he is!!!" To which Brian Clough responded "Tell him he's Pele and put him up front.."
At the moment Danny Holman is looking after the reserves but i don't believe he wishes that to be a permanent appointment so the reserves are actively looking for a manager.
I believe this is the only blog for the reserves and A Team so i will do my best to frequently post on the games of both teams as accuately as possible
