Having trained with these players on wednesday nights they are a great bunch of lads and they have some very talented players which can only benefit Hethersett Athletic as a club in the future. What really hits me though is the togetherness and team spirit the whole group on Wednesdays show which shows the spirit within the club.

I suppose i should talk about the Reserves start to the season. It was diffucult pre season to arrange a full team to play. Alot of the players last year play saturday football and now find it hard to play 2 games in a weekend and understandably would rather play saturday than sunday. The first couple of games mixed alot of players who haven't played together before and alot of the players from the A team including myself had never played in any division apart from 4B before so were thrown into the deep end in 2B. The first game was dissapointing however even though the results have been poor, the level of play and team work the guys have shown has been superb and the performances have been improving.

A mention must be made to Dave Mannington. Dave has recently left his role as manager of the reserve side. He has done great work in the last few years and will be missed from the club. A couple of weeks ago Ross Eyeington the reserve team goalkeeper got a bad blow to the head when a very strongly hit shot bounced of the post and hit him on the base of the scull from a distance of around a yard. I was playing centre back that day and spoke to ross immediately after the incident and noticed nothing wrong. It was only when the game didn't restart as expected that i turned around to see that Ross had collapsed. By this time Dave was already administering first aid, clearing Ross's airway and putting him in the recovery position then instructing for an ambulance to be called. Without Dave there i am unsure how this situation would have panned out so as a close friend of Ross's i would like to thank Dave for that as well and to Paul Stone for calling the ambulance and relaying the first aid messages and assistance from the ambulance service. Ross has since made a complete recovery but can't remember anything about the game so i said we won 12-0 and asked him to give me back the £50 i lent him just before the game. This made me think of a Brian Clough story of when Stuart Pearce was knocked out during a Nottingham Forest game. the physio shouted over to the bench "he's out, he doesn't even know who he is!!!" To which Brian Clough responded "Tell him he's Pele and put him up front.."

At the moment Danny Holman is looking after the reserves but i don't believe he wishes that to be a permanent appointment so the reserves are actively looking for a manager.

I believe this is the only blog for the reserves and A Team so i will do my best to frequently post on the games of both teams as accuately as possible

Is there anybody out there???

Well i thought i'd post to let you know whats been happening!!

The A-Team boys (thats Hethersett A Team not Mr T, Face, Murdoch and Hannibal) are training on Wednesday nights with last years under 16's team. True their are only six in the league but i prefer to focus on the positives...

It's the presentation evening this friday at park farm, i think the awards given out will be slightly more sensible then the awards i gave...

See you all there...

End Of Season

Well sorry for the lack of updates lately, i have had serious computer issues with it keep crashi

There it goes again....

Well the season ended poorly for the A team with us only picking up 5 points during 2007. There were some good performances but the results against North Walsham and Dynamo Denmark really affected morale.

So here are the Matt Parkhouse completely unofficial awards for season 2006/2007

Goal of the season

The majestic leap by Matt Parkhouse in the dying minutes of the sprowston game was like a salmon leaping out of..... ok ok i'm lying again...

Goal of the season for me has to be the shot from just in the right half from Rob Pugh.. 45 yards... It was meant for Andy Oliver on the right wing of course... No it was a great strike!

Nice to see of the season

It was really good to see Martin Mowser back playing this season after badly breaking his leg two seasons ago whilst playing for Hethersett. It was also good to see Scott Allen, the clubs top goalscorer return towards the end of the season after he picked up a really really bad break earlier in the season.

Is it really that important? moment of season...

Mike Pugh's broken nose. Our best wishes go out to Mike and his lovely little hooter....

Supporter of the season

No score draw between Karla, Emma and Jane!!

Worst dress sense of season

Lewis Allens bermuda shorts!! in the middle of december....

Person arriving on sunday mornings looking like they haven't been home since a night out most often...

Sorry that would be me....

Sunday Morning Flatulance Award

Nookie by a nose...

Arriving still looking drunk award

Danny Holman

Own Goal of the season award

Tie between Rob Pugh, Tim Allenden and me Matt Parkhouse, Tim's was a majestic Volley over the keeper, Rob was actually nowhere near his so thats probably the most impressive.. Mine was a imaculate piece of control followed by a left foot shot into the bottom corner.... The best thing about this was that there was ten minutes to go and made the score 3-2....

Unsung hero of the season

There can be only one... Bob Oliver.. We all appreciate the work Bob does during the season, We all may not show it but it is highly appreciated..

Half time refreshment of the season

Paul, the half time hot chocolate in the middle of winter is a godsend!

Person trying to look like Thierry Henry the most by wearing gloves to play

Matty "Pele" Bradfield

Save of the season:

Even though the Mundsley defender palming the ball around the post shortly before being sent off was funny, Stewie Holland's display against Costessey was superb..

On Pitch arguments of season

Rob Pugh and Mike Pugh... brotherly love...

Acheivement of the season

Nookie being offside 34,987 times!! just kidding.. has to be Danny Holman reaching 300 games for the club.. Superb

And Finally....

Player of the season

I'll leave this one up to you!

If you want to vote however please send a blank postcard to:

The Matt Parkhouse for Player of the Season Award
Hethersett Athletic A team
Hethersett

P.S Keep checking back for posts, i will continue to post (if my computer keeps working) on our quest to sometime hopefully win a five a side game on a monday night....

HETHERSETT ATHLETIC A TEAM v NCC (Memorial Playing Field Sunday 4th February 10.30)

Well it was a good game on sunday between the potential league winners NCC and Hethersett. Both teams played well, it was friendly, and nobody ended up in hospital like in the last game...

After an even opening, NCC took the league after some great play down the right wing and a superb cross that was calmly headed in by the NCC forward. Hethersett soon found their rhythm and were unlucky not to score after Nookie was through one on one with the goalkeeper who made a great save. Hethersett did score before halftime, a right footed shot off the post by left winger Chris Sutcliffe.

The second half was an even affair with both sides having good chances to win the game. Both sides started well and chances were created by both teams. Some good play by Paul Martin and Chris Sutcliffe for Hethersett in the first half nearly breaking the deadlock before half time.

The second half was again very even until Hethersett decided to change their team by putting Lewis Allen and Matt Parkhouse on for Nookie and Rob Pugh. The two substitues completely transformed the game, Matt's lightning pace down the left flank and Lewy's skill were too much for Sprowston...

Ok that last section was completely untrue, i'll try again.....

Rob Pugh's knee started playing up and Lewy would have started the game without question so both substitutions were made. The game seemed destined for a no score draw before Hethersett Athletic won a corner with around 5 minutes to go. Everyone piled forwards and from the resulting corner Matt Parkhouse fired a thunderous header into the net...

Ok i'll stop it now.....

Everyone piled forward for the corner and the Sprowston defender could not clear his header and headered it past the keeper into his own net. This was unlucky for Sprowston who probably deserved a draw from the game, but is a great result for Hethersett who still have they eyes set for the title....

There were a few bookings... Rob Pugh got booked for kicking the ball away (and having a go at the ref..) While Rob was still complaining the ball got played through and Danny Holman fouled the attacker and was booked, and then Mike Pugh was booked for moaning at Rob Pugh (who at that time was currently linesman)

Team - Stuart Holland, Rob Pugh (Matt Parkhouse), Jim Field, Danny Holman, Mike Pugh, Chris Sutcliffe, Matty Bradfield, Dougladinho, Andy Oliver, Paul"Nookie" Martin (Lewis Allen), Josh Mann

Bookings - R Pugh, M Pugh, D Holman

Goals - Matt Parkhouse... sorry... Hethersett started the game flying with a quick goal from Lewis Allen and a wonder goal 30 yard strike from left back Rob Pugh leaving Hethersett 2-0 up at half time.

Taverham however came out really strongly in the second half and started piling pressure onto the Hethersett goal and had a good chance deflected wide for a corner. From the resulting corner there was a scramble in defence and the ball was lashed into the net... 2-1. Hethersett could not get a foot hold into the game and with 10 minutes to go, Taverham equalised again from another corner..

The result leves Taverham and Hethersett in the top two of the league, however NCP are third two games in hand that could move them ahead.

Team: Stuart Holland, Rob Pugh, Matt Parkhouse(TA), Mike Pugh, Danny Holman, Matty Bradfield, Chris Sutcliffe, Dougladinho, Andy Oliver, Paul "Nookie" Martin (Josh Mann), Lewis Allen(Martin Mowser)

Linesman - Tim Allenden...

Attendence - 12

Goal of the month award - Rob Pugh
Own Goal of the month award - Rob Pugh

Mundsley V Hethersett Athletic A Team

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog... it's all Mike Pugh's fault...

Anyway...

Sunday saw Hethersett visit Mundsley who arn't doing very well and are near the bottom of the table.

The game started badly for Hethersett with Mundlsey opening the scoring early on through one of their players who plays for Kings Lynn reserves. Hethersett finally got into gear after ten minutes and started creating chances of their own and their hard work paid off with a goal from Andy Oliver after good work by Nookie down the left.

The second half started badly again for Hethersett with Rob Pugh firing the ball past his own keeper to keep up hte record of Pugh famil own goals away at Mundsley, Robs's however was not as good as the flying scissor kick volley of brother Mike last year...

A mundsley defender then made a great save from a Lewis Allen shot! However he palmed it round the post, and was sent off for his efforts. Lewy scored the penalty and we were all level again... Hethersett could not really make the extra man count and, even though they went ahead through another lewis Allen goal, Mundsley equalised late on the make the final score 3-3.

Team:

Stuart Holland, Mike Pugh, Rob Pugh, Danny Holman, Matt Parkhouse, Chris Sutcliffe, Matt Bradfield, Dougladinho, Andy Oliver, Nookie, Lewis Allen (James Field)

Subs not used - Mike Crampton, Alex White

Attendance - 8

DAN HOLMAN'S 300TH GAME (Hethersett A v Stoke League Cup Sunday 8th October 10.30)

Sunday saw Danny Holman play his 300th game for Hethersett Athletic, the first player in the clubs history to acheive this. It is a fantastic milestone and because of this Danny has been made an honourary life member of the club.

The game was an away league fixture against Stoke. The game started well for Hethersett on a terrible pitch. A great headed goal by Paul "Nookie" Martin put hethersett ahead but Stoke quickly equalised on a quick counter attack.

Hethersett created lots of chances but couldn't find the back of the net, and disaster struck when stoke scored near the end of the second half and hethersett did not have a responce.

Team: Stuart Holland, Dan Holman, Tim Allenden, Mike Pugh, Matt Parkhouse, Andy Oliver, Scott Allen, Matty Bradfield, Chris Sutcliffe, Lewis Allen, Paul Martin (Ian Harrison)

Goals - Paul "Nookie" Martin

Attendence - 16

HETHERSETT ATHLETIC A v Freethorpe (Memorial playing field Sunday 1st October 10.30am)

Sunday morning saw Hethersett Athletic Mens A Team take on Freethorpe. Hethersett had started off he season well and were sitting second in league 4B. Apart from an unlucky defeat by Dynamo Denmark, Hethersett had won all their previous games. Freethorpe had also started the season well and were 6th in the league before kick off Sunday and had beaten Dynamo Denmark 9-2 the previous week.

Hethersett started the game well (after the game was delayed briefly to remove some dog poo from the pitch) and were soon ahead through a well worked goal by Scott Allen. Before half time Hethersett increased their lead with a goal from Paul "Nookie" Martin. A great goal line clearance from the Freethorpe defence kept the score at 2-0 at half time.

The second half carried on in the same vain as the first half. Matt Bradfield and Mike Douglas were bossing the midfield, with the Allen brothers causing the defence no end of problems. A third goal was soon added when "Nookie" got his head to a corner after good work by Andy Oliver down the right. Freethorpe did score but never really threatened after that.
